Three Simple Ways to Start Loving Yourself Now

Updated: Jul 29

Loving yourself may sound easy in theory but when you actually try to apply it can prove to be very challenging. It may seem easier to love others before loving yourself. It is so important to be able to love yourself first before giving love away to other people. As a life coach I have heard it many times over, “I don’t have time for myself”, or “I don’t know how to love myself”. Maybe you don’t, maybe you don’t have time for yourself or you can’t understand how to love yourself or maybe you’re making excuses as loving yourself sounds laborious! Whatever the case may be for you, here are three simple ways you can do to start loving yourself starting now!

Rest

Sounds simple but how many nights do you find yourself laying in bed or on your couch and scrolling through your Facebook feed or Instagram or maybe watching one more show on Netflix?! The next thing you know you’ve done it again, you’ve taken a few more hours out from your much needed good nights sleep. Why not try and minimise screen time or give yourself a limit. I know how hard it could be to implement this, so starting little by little could be a great way to achieve this, start with one day at a time. Get yourself to bed on time, stop the mindless social media scrolling addiction and start reaping the benefits of a good nights sleep!

Eat Healthier

Yes, we have heard this one over and over again. But it’s a fact, eating healthier and feeling healthier within our bodies will lead to a happier and healthier mind. We really are what we eat. Start simple, next time you go for a shop, ask yourself, “what can I buy to nurture my body and mind?” I am not suggesting you radically change your entire diet, but be mindful of what you’re putting into your body, take notice of the ingredients and make conscious decisions. Ask yourself how eating certain foods will make you feel.

Exercise

Ahhh yes, this one again...but yes, this is one of the best ways of releasing endorphins which trigger that happy feeling in the brain. Why not start by treating yourself to a nice walk outside maybe even try a free online 20 minute yoga class or pilates class. No one is saying you need to be a top athlete overnight, it’s about taking small steps (pun intended) each day to achieve that feeling of happiness. The thought of exercise is sometimes more exhausting than the actual exercise itself!

I know that you have probably heard all of this before, but sometimes it’s about being in the right frame of mind to get the ball rolling. Maybe you were just not ready for a change before but now you are. So start simple with all of these. Even if you just try this once a week, it’s a start and may not be as overwhelming for you. A gradual implementation will set you up for success in living a happier and healthier lifestyle!
